ChatGPT keeps 86% of Azerbaijan's AI chatbot market in September 2026
ChatGPT held 86.3% of Azerbaijan's AI chatbot market in September 2026, Trend.Az reported on 9 October, with Statcounter data showing Google Gemini a distant second at 10.3%.
ChatGPT maintained its leading position in Azerbaijan's artificial intelligence chatbot market in September 2026, with a market share of 86.3%, Trend.Az reported on 9 October 2026. Statcounter Global Stats, the web-analytics firm whose monthly snapshots underlie such reports, lists an almost identical figure of 86.27% for the same month on its public tracker.
The September snapshot
According to Statcounter's Azerbaijan page for AI chatbots, the shares for September 2026 were:
| Chatbot | Share |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 86.27% |
| Google Gemini | 10.29% |
| Perplexity | 2.42% |
| Claude | 0.78% |
| Microsoft Copilot | 0.25% |
A swinging year
ChatGPT's share of the Azerbaijani market has moved considerably through 2026. Azernews reported an 84.62% share for January, a fall of 6.16 percentage points from December, citing the Global Stats data centre. By March the share had dropped further, to 78.44%, Azernews reported on 2 April, again citing Statcounter. It then rose to 79.52% in May, a 6.74-point gain on April that both Trend.Az and Azernews reported on 6 June. September's 86.3% is the highest of these four reported readings.
Why it matters
A single consumer chatbot holding close to nine-tenths of recorded AI usage in a national market leaves little room for competitors, and it means that, for Azerbaijani users, "AI chatbot" is in practice synonymous with one US company's product rather than a competitive field of alternatives. Statcounter's September figures show that ChatGPT and Gemini together account for 96.6% of recorded chatbot usage in the country, with Claude and Microsoft Copilot combined holding just over 1%. Azerbaijan's Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2025–2028 lists building a qualified AI workforce among its stated goals, according to a decree summary carried by News.Az, citing AZERTAC — a goal set against a domestic chatbot market in which two foreign platforms account for nearly all recorded usage.
