Aliyev calls for wider AI and big-data use in Azerbaijan's audit sector
In a 16 September address marking the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's Chamber of Auditors, President Ilham Aliyev called for expanding artificial intelligence and big-data tools in the audit profession.
President Ilham Aliyev, in a written address to an international conference in Baku on 16 September 2026, called for wider use of artificial intelligence and big-data analytics tools in Azerbaijan's audit profession, according to the Azerbaijan Press Agency (APA). The conference, titled "Development Stages of Audit: The Path from Compliance to Strategic Partnership and Trust," marked the 30th anniversary of the Chamber of Auditors of the Republic of Azerbaijan ("Auditorlar Palatası").
What the address said
- Aliyev said consistent efforts were needed to "expand the use of artificial intelligence and modern data analytics tools" in audit processes, alongside greater transparency and efficiency.
- He said the conference agenda included "the integration of big data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies into the audit process" as part of the profession's digital transformation.
- He tied the push to the Law "On Audit Service," signed by national leader Heydar Aliyev, under which the Chamber was established.
- He said he was confident the conference would help advance "the application of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in auditing" in Azerbaijan.
The same text of the address was also published by AzerNews, citing APA.
Why it matters
The address is a presidential-level policy signal rather than a technical announcement: Aliyev named no budget, timeline, system or vendor for AI adoption in auditing. But naming AI and big-data analytics explicitly in an anniversary address for a specific profession shows how far the government now expects AI language to reach into sector-level policy statements, beyond the digital-agency announcements that have dominated coverage so far.
What it means for Azerbaijani companies
For audit firms, accountants and the IT vendors that serve them, the address signals that AI and big-data tools are likely to become an expected part of the Chamber of Auditors' own modernisation agenda. That fits the second of the four goals set out in Azerbaijan's Artificial Intelligence Strategy for 2025–2028, approved by presidential decree in March 2025: "creating favourable conditions for the implementation of artificial intelligence." No procurement programme, licensing requirement or funding line for audit-specific AI tools has been announced yet, so the statement should be read as direction rather than a near-term tender signal.
